EVR036-NBLG.L982-26609-1949, Class K1, No.2005-(BR No.62005) at Glaisdale Station-15-06-1975

            Preserved for posterity, Class K1 locomotive no.2005 (formerly B.R. No.62005) is viewed here, alongside the signal box, at Glaisdale Station, on the Esk Valley Railway, on the early evening of 15/06/1975. The engine is waiting for the right-of-way, so that it can proceed onwards towards Grosmont Station, and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Built by North British Locomotive Company Ltd, Glasgow, to Order No.L982, and Works No.26609, in 1949, as Class K1, and delivered new to British Railways, Darlington M.P.D., on 10/06/1949. This locomotive was transferred to York North M.P.D., (Shed No.50A), on 30/08/1959, and as seen in this image. From there, it was transferred to Blyth North M.P.D., (Shed No.52F), on 13/03/1966, then to Tyne Dock M.P.D., (Shed No.52H), on 28/05/1967, and then to Leeds Holbeck M.P.D., (Shed No.55A), on 10/09/1967, from where it was withdrawn, on 30/12/1967. The locomotive was purchased as a source of a spare boiler for preserved Class K4, locomotive No.3442, “The Great Marquess”, but in 1972, the K1 was donated, still with its boiler, to the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group.
