Conrail 6397 ALTO - a photo on Flickriver

Conrail 6397 ALTO

            On an early October morning (at least for me at 7:52 A.M.) I managed to catch this special move which included M1 tanks and mass transit vehicles at ALTO tower in Altoona, PA on 10-7-92.  I had my AE-1 camera set for semi-automatic as all I had to do was set the speed and it would decide what aperture to use.   The issue with this early camera equipment was it could get fooled by the lighting.  This was the case on this day as the sun had just barely crested over the surrounding mountains.  The sky and the town were in bright light but the train and surrounding tracks were in dark shadows.  Most of the picture was well illuminated which the camera saw and adjusted for.  Unfortunately this caused the train and surrounding area to come out even darker.   With the newer computer software one is able to go back and improve different parts of the picture which need some tender-loving-care.   This particular shot needed a lot of fixing just to get it into halfway decent shape.   The video came out even worse as my software is only able to do so much.
