            After 175 days of temperatures ranging from 36 degrees to 41 degrees, the temperature has dropped to the low 30s and the pre-wet season rains have arrived. In the background, the early rice planting is progressing steadily with the remaining area ploughed and ready for the heavy rains to arrive. This area is near Phnom Krom and Tonle Sap Lake and, even through this excessively hot period, there is enough ground water to sustain crops. The farmer is spreading seed by hand. His house sits precariously atop the wooden poles.
