The two buildings housed the royal kitchens, public services, market gardens, guards' and servants' palaces. Between the two buildings extends a curved colonnade, decorated with statues and obelisks, which served as an entrance and acted as a screen to protect the view of the marshes beyond. In 1896, William II had a tunnel dug to allow passage between the palace and the outbuildings, avoiding bad weather if possible. The curvatures of the stairs and domes, the pilasters and columns do not show the practical purpose of the buildings. Today they are used by the University of Potsdam.

Zwischen den beiden Gebäuden erstreckt sich eine geschwungene, mit Statuen und Obelisken geschmückte Kolonnade, die als Eingang diente und als Sichtschutz auf die dahinter liegenden Sumpfgebiete diente. Im Jahr 1896 ließ Wilhelm II. einen Tunnel graben, um den Durchgang zwischen dem Palast und den Nebengebäuden zu ermöglichen und schlechtes Wetter möglichst zu vermeiden. Die Krümmungen der Treppen und Kuppeln, der Pilaster und Säulen zeigen nicht den praktischen Zweck der Gebäude. Heute werden sie von der Universität Potsdam genutzt.
