            Nella parte più occidentale del golfo di La Spezia si trova lo stupendo borgo di Portovenere, che prende il nome da un tempio eretto in onore di Venere Ericina, in epoca romana, costruito sull'attuale promontorio di San Pietro. Il paesaggio unico, il porto turistico, gli stabilimenti balneari, le possibilità di immersione negli innumerevoli anfratti creati dal mare sulle scogliere davanti al borgo e sulle isole, rendono Portovenere una delle mete più famose del panorama Italiano. I ristoranti sono stimati per la raffinatezza dei piatti a base di pesce (in particolare i muscoli coltivati nei numerosi vivai), innaffiati con il vino doc delle Cinque Terre. Il borgo di Portovenere si offre, nelle sue forme pressoché immutate nel corso di 8 secoli, alla vista del visitatore che ne può apprezzare l'ineguagliabile panorama, gli scorci caratteristici e pittoreschi, l'unicità degli antichi portali delle case torri che si allineano strette l'una all'altra sui carruggi e sulla calata. Per chi è nei pressi una visita di questo splendido Golfo è obbligatorio, bisogna lasciarsi andare alla suggestione della salsedine e dei colori, del volo dei gabbiani, delle rocce ardite, delle testimonianze della storia e dell'arte che ammiccano in ogni angolo del paese.
In the western part of the gulf of La Spezia lies the beautiful village of Portovenere, which takes its name from a temple erected in honor of Venus Ericina in Roman times, built on the current hill of San Pietro. The unique landscape, the marina, beach resorts, the ability to dive in the countless nooks created by the sea on the cliffs in front of the village and islands, make Portovenere one of the most famous of the Italian landscape. The restaurants are rated for the elegance of seafood dishes (especially the muscles grown in many nurseries), washed down with wine doc of the Cinque Terre. The village of Portovenere is offered in forms virtually unchanged over eight centuries, the sight of the visitor who can appreciate the unique views, characteristic views and picturesque, the uniqueness of the portals of the ancient tower houses that line narrow each other on narrow streets and fell.
