20-5617 United States Air Force (USAF 48th FW / 493rd FS Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II

            Seen here making a racket over the top of my friend and I is this F-35A belonging to the 493rd Fighter Squadron (a.k.a. Grim Reapers). This had just arrived from a quick sortie, and is party of a four-ship sortie.

Often on approach into Lakenbheath, some jets perform a go-around and pull up hard and bank hard left before lining up again to land. The F-35 was built with stealth capabilities as a fifth-generation fighter. These are set to replace the ageing F-15's that are still in service, which is expected to last over the next 15-20 years.
