GWR 4073 Lamp - a photo on Flickriver

GWR 4073 Lamp

            This photograph was taken a few months ago on the 22nd December during my trip to STEAM – Museum Of The Great-Western Railway of one of GWR’s No.4073’s front lamps captured via my camera flash. The flash from my camera has allowed the lens of the locomotive’s lamp to appear as if the asset’s in operation, despite that it isn’t during its preservation within the museum. Due to this, the final photograph was purposely post-produced to appear as somewhat underexposed to create the illusion that the lamp is in operation at night. This shot was post-produced through a monochrome palette to connote with Railway Photography when black and white photography was common in the subject, whilst the scheme also represents the smoke/steam from the basis of a steam engine. These colours also represent the industrial connotations of UK Steam whether its from the basis of the locomotives, or from the environments that these machines were based within.
