The Gaffer - Gone but not forgotten!

            Monday 19 May marked the first anniversary of the day that just about every fan of Liverpool Football Club (myself included) hoped would never come, the departure of Jürgen Klopp after nine whirlwind years as manager.

That memorable journey saw the German bring the glory days back to Liverpool, winning every major honour on offer including a sixth European crown and that elusive Premier League trophy. 

Twelve months on and the team that he built, with new manager Arne Slot at the helm, went on to clinch a record-equalling 20th league title that saw them officially become the country's most successful football club.

This weekend will see the team presented with the trophy in front of a packed Anfield Stadium, something that was denied during the last title win due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

The occasion will also see Klopp make his eagerly awaited first return to Anfield since leaving the dugout so it promises to be some party!

Apart from his breathtaking style of football and wild celebrations, the big smile, sense of humour and humility of the man endeared him to the city of Liverpool and there was a genuine sense of sadness across the city as he departed.

Even the opposition fans (including Everton!) liked him, so he must have been doing something right!

His status as one of the all-time great Liverpool managers is secure. There isn't a single manager in the world that I would have swapped him for.

He may be gone but his image can still be seen all over Liverpool with various murals adorning buildings across the city.

This particular one was one of, if not, the first to pop up. Located on Jordan Street in the Baltic Triangle area it first appeared back in 2019 when Klopp delivered that sixth European crown and is probably the most photgraphed of the Klopp murals.

Despite being six years old it's holding up to the elements pretty well!
