Infrared View of Waterfall Below the Main Cascade, Ritson's Force, Wasdale Head, Lake District National Park, Cumbria

            Ritson's Force is a waterfall along Mosedale Beck near Wasdale Head and can just be seen from the path leading up to Black Sail Pass. From the footpath along the western side of Mosedale Beck the National Trust have created a permissive path down to the waterfalls.

These falls consist of a number of cascades that tumble down towards the little arched stone bridge located behind the Wasdale Head Inn. Named after the storyteller Will Ritson who was the first landlord of The Wasdale Head Inn. Will Ritson was a well known local character famous for his tall tales who was born in 1808 on a farm in Wasdale Head. He was known for playing all sorts of tricks on people and telling convincing stories to locals and ‘off comers’ (visitors).
