            Am Waldrand des Haslimoos spannt eine Gartenkreuzspinne (Araneus diadematus) ihr feines Netz. Typisch ist das helle Kreuzmuster auf dem Hinterleib. Diese Spinnen überstehen den Winter nicht als ausgewachsene Tiere – sie sterben im Herbst, nachdem sie ihre Eier in einem Kokon abgelegt haben. Darin überdauern die Jungspinnen die kalte Jahreszeit und schlüpfen im Frühling. Für dieses Foto habe ich mich auf den Boden gelegt, um das Netz mit passendem Licht im Hintergrund einzufangen.

At the edge of the Haslimoos forest, a garden spider (Araneus diadematus) spins its delicate web. The light, crisscross pattern on its abdomen is typical. These spiders don't survive the winter as adults—they die in the fall after laying their eggs in a cocoon. The young spiders survive the cold season in these cocoons and hatch in the spring. For this photo, I lay down on the ground to capture the web with the right light in the background.
