The USS Intrepid (CV-11) is one of 24 Essex class aircraft carriers built during WWII, and served as an attack carrier (CVA-11) and antisubmarine carrier (CVS-11) with the US Navy. Decommissioned in 1974, she became a museum ship, moored in the Hudson River in New York City, and becoming the foundation of the USS Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum complex.

The aircraft carrier now holds a number of naval icons of those times, including this A-4B Skyhawk, which was delivered to the US Navy in 1959 as BuAer 142833, and actually served aboard the Intrepid with VA-95 in Vietnam in 1966.

142833 was struck of charge in 1970, and is now on display aboard the Intrepid, painted in original VA-95 scheme of that time, but oddly coded 300/AF as a VA-66 aircraft, for its assignment to Carrier Air Wing 6, of which both, VA-95 and VA-66 were part of.

Nevertheless, the Skyhawk made a most welcome subject on the deck of the Intrepid, and only this shot from the bridge of the carrier got it clear of all the clutter around it.
