Chroicocephalus ridibundus - a photo on Flickriver

            Near my house there is a beach where, when the tide goes out, shallow pools are exposed on one side. They are like small temporary shelters, and the seagulls know this well. They come in groups, of different species, to bathe or rest.

The other day I was lucky: several black-headed gulls approached. Most of them were resting, many on one leg, some even asleep. This one in particular caught my attention. It was perched on a rock, its beak hidden between its wings, completely relaxed. 

It had already lost the characteristic black colour of its head that they display during the breeding season, but that did not detract from its beauty. 

In addition, it was a cloudy day, which softened the light and calmed the atmosphere. Thanks to that, I was able to take this high-key photo, something that is not always possible.
