            Another older image of mine that I recently edited.  This was taken during an April snowstorm.  I say "older" but it is not quite ten years old and seems like yesterday when I took the photo.  

I don't think this barn is still standing.  I believe it was over 100 years old when I took the photo.  It certainly was no longer in use.  Farmers often will take down old barns not only because they can be a potential hazard, but because higher taxes have to be paid on land with structures.  Sometimes the farmer will allow the fire department to burn the barn in order to practice firefighting.  To me, old wooden barns are works of art.  Where can you find any new barn that looks like this one?  The answer is NOWHERE.  

If you see an old wooden barn, take photos of it and treasure them because these old boys are rapidly disappearing from the American landscape.  Metal barns sometimes replace them, but often the land is sold to developers because it is very hard today to make a living operating a small farm.  

The large corporate farms are taking over.  It is sad that this is happening.  it is all due to greed.  Before WW2, there were over 6 million small farms in America with over 30 million people working of these farms.  People bought local farm goods.  Today, you might be eating vegetables grown in Argentina.  And I don't even want to get started about the factory farms that produce animals that live their entire lives in tiny cages, and the millions of tons of waste from these poor animals.  It's disgusting.
