Marsden Moor Fire 03/05/2023

            Another wildfire on Marsden moor this afternoon, or more likely just another scroat with a lighter thinking it would be fun to start a fire again, this is the 3rd in about 3 weeks.
Moorland fires are probably the least favourite thing I photograph, it is just total destruction as well as needlessly putting the fire personnel, local farmers, estate managers, mountain rescue teams as well as the public at risk.
It's not just the physical damage to the landscape, but the wildlife which lives there too. I did walk past charred nests today, eggs and dead chicks inside, small mammals charred on the moorland surface. At the edge of the area burnt, it was sad to see wheatears, skylarks and even a pair of curlews calling out for each other and staying away from the smoking landscape.
