Iron Pyrite - Fool's Gold - a photo on Flickriver

            This cubic crystal sample of Pyrite or Fool's Gold was originally mined in Peru.

Also known as the "stone which strikes fire" and it was used in early flintlock muskets for this very reason.

Amazingly, this is how it can come out of the ground in this cuboid fashion. I thought it had been cut and polished for display purposes but the seller explained otherwise.

Also used as a talisman and for Feng Shui in some countries.

I must admit, I am fascinated by this fantastic artifact.
