Union Station (Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad, and St. Louis Southwestern Railroad), Arkansas, Brinkley

            The Brinkley Union Station was built in 1912. The depot served the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad- the Rock Island Line,  and the St. Louis Southwestern Railroad- The Cotton Belt Line.  The Mediterranean Revival style building has signature features including the red, ceramic tile roof, a raised, stepped parapet at the gable ends of the central section, and arched windows with concrete keystone.  The structure forms a "V" shape with a freight section on each end, and the passenger waiting area in the center. Tracks passed along the sides of the freight sections. The last schedule Cotton Belt passenger train departed the station in 1959.  The last Rock Island passenger train left in 1967.  The station was given to the City of Brinkley by Union Pacific Railroad, a successor line, in 2001.  Restoration work started in 2001 and was completed in 2009.  In 2015, when the photograph was taken, the building housed the Central Delta Depot and Museum.  The building is a contributing structure in the Lick Skillet Work Station Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places.
