Common Crow Butterfly (Euploea core) in Northern Queensland

            One of my contacts asked me about the Wanderer butterfly and I was sure I had some images I took last October but on inspection, it turns out to be the Common Crow butterfly I have.  The 3rd photo I am posting here is a Wanderer (Monarch) Butterfly.

The common crow has a wingspan of 54 mm and is brown-black with scattered white spots on the forewings and a band of white spots on the hindwing.  It is more common in drier, open habitats.  It is found scattered in all Australian States.  The caterpillars eat mainly on the poisonous oleander plants.

Adults go into groupings in shady and withdrawn areas especially in winter.  I found mine on a shaded wall in limestone country as part of the wall of an ancient limestone coral reef.  This was at Chillagoe.   There were lots of them across the face of the wall.
