Drummanagh Pano - a photo on Flickriver

Drummanagh Pano

            Drummanagh pro.Dromonock is a headland situated between Rush and Loughshinny in North county Dublin about 25 kilometers from Dublion city. Sitting on the headland is a martello tower which were built along the east coast of Ireland to warn of invasion. The have no windows and the door is about 2.5 - 3 meters off the ground.

The towers were built at a time when Napoleon was in power and the towers were built in line of sight from Drogheda in Co Louth and along the coast to Wicklow.  They gave a full view of the Irish sea.
This headland is now as preserved sight  as some bronze age atifacts were discovered here in last 20 years. There is a popular coastal path walk around the headland.
The most famous tower is the one at Sandycove in South Dublin where James Joyce the author of Ulysses  lived  for a short time with his friend Oliver St.John Gogarty. The fictional carachter in Ulysses, Stephen Deladus lives in the tower  Malachi "Buck" Mulligan a medical student.
