La fine di un sogno - The End of a Dream

            La Cattedrale Vegetale di Lodi, l’opera di arte in natura più grande al mondo, è stata abbattuta. Una scelta che arriva dopo la relazione di un perito che ha diagnosticato la presenza di un fungo come una delle cause dei crolli di  una ottantina delle 108 delle colonne lignee che costituiscono la Cattedrale. E il Comune ha deciso, per motivi di sicurezza, di eliminare le ultime 28 colonne che ospitano al loro interno un germoglio di quercia, ancora in piedi. E di rimuovere tutti i cartelli stradali con l’indicazione della Cattedrale. Una tabula rasa generale che di sicuro non può far bene alla memoria dell’artista. Costruita dopo la morte, seguendo le indicazioni lasciate da Mauri nel suo testamento artistico, in realtà la Cattedrale Vegetale si è rivelata un’opera fragile, cui non sembrerebbe essere stata fatta adeguata manutenzione. Ancora in piedi invece restano le altre due cattedrali vegetali progettate da Mauri, entrambe in Italia e visitabili: la Cattedrale Vegetale di Arte Sella (Borgo Valsugana, Trento) e quella del Parco delle Orobie (Bergamo). 
 
The Vegetable Cathedral of Lodi, the largest work of art in nature in the world, has been demolished. A choice that comes after the report of an expert who diagnosed the presence of a fungus as one of the causes of the collapses of about eighty of the 108 wooden columns that make up the Cathedral. The structure was decimated by the strong wind. And the Municipality has decided, for security reasons, to eliminate the last 28 columns that house an oak sprout, still standing. And to remove all the road signs indicating the Cathedral. A general blank slate that certainly cannot be good for the artist's memory. Built after death, following the indications left by Mauri in his artistic testament, in reality the Vegetable Cathedral has proved to be a fragile work, which does not seem to have been properly maintained. Still standing are the other two plant cathedrals designed by Mauri, both in Italy and open to visitors: the Vegetable Cathedral of Arte Sella (Borgo Valsugana, Trento) and that of the Parco delle Orobie (Bergamo).
