Eng and Chang Bunker - a photo on Flickriver

            The grave of Eng and Chang Bunker, world famous "Siamese Twins". Born May 11, 1811 near Bangkok, Siam(now called Thailand). They toured the world from 1829-1839 in a "curiosity show". They liked the northwest area of North Carolina and settled there on a farm. They both married local women and had many children(21 total). They eventually set up separate homes here in White Plains, NC. 
The twins did not share any body functions, so while Chang's health declined, Eng's did not. Eventually on January 17, 1874, Eng woke up to find Chang dead. Surgery could not be performed soon enough to separate them and Eng died 3 hours later. The only organ they were connected by was the lived, and each's functioned on its own. It's likely they could have been separated at any time, but chose not to. 
They are buried here with there wives(and many descendants)  at White Plains Baptist Church.
