1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham 1:18 Diecast by Sunstar

            Truly one of the most beautiful cars Cadillac had ever made, the 1957-1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham was or still is a very special car. Luxurious and innovative inside and out, sporting a unique body-style, with a hardtop body style, a brushed stainless steel roof and a suicide door which was built in Fisher Body's Fleetwood plant. It was an engineering marvel; the Eldorado Brougham was the world's first production car to have an air suspension system for a smoother ride and superior handling and it had no options as everything was standard equipment costing more than a Rolls Royce at the time, and Cadillac had lost alot of money for each and every one they had built. Production figures are below 500 units during it's 1967-1958 production run which makes it a very rare car indeed. 

Sunstar did a decent job recreating one of the most beautiful car out there, this certain car is painted in Sandalwood gold, which to me seems rare as I looked on Google and it seems that half of the Eldorado Broughams made are either in black or a dark shade of blue. In terms of accuracy, Sunstar seems to have done a great job with a well proportioned body as opposed to looking chunky compared to many die-cast models of some '50s American cars. Details are quite basic but are very pleasing especially the egg-crate grille with the black-wash that creates a realistic illusion that the grille and the vents has holes in them, then there is the Eldorado badge in the front fender which is molded in the body shell but painted silver which in my opinion does not stand out at all, the tailights are simply painted on the chrome strips that runs along the top of the fin but it's effective enough to look realistic. Lights could be better especially the quad headlights with the black stub that in the centre which lets down the model as it does not look realistic at all. The bumpers looks fantastic as the shape looks correct. Chrome is quite mediocre as Sunstar is quite on the budget models' side so it's not good, but it's not bad either, although it really lifts up the car as with the real thing. Fit and finish could have been better; the car was a top-of the line Cadillac at the time and of-course everything was finely made and to fit flushly, and this model is the opposite; such as the 4 doors, uneven panel gaps even around the trunk and hood. The stainless steel roof which in my opinion is spot on but then again, its got panel gap/fit and finish issue but it's not noticable until you really inspect the model. Though the good thing about this particular model is that the chrome parts which are seperate plastic parts fits and are attached well. The hinge is fantastic; it's my ffavourite hinge type for model cars, infact, i prefer it to the spring operated one they used in models such as Autoarts and Norevs. Although the way the doors open is quite inaccurate in the model as the real car sports the ''dog-leg'' hinge where the edge/side of the door where the hinge are attached swings out of the fender and the real car's doors swings out in an angle unlike this model where the door swings inwards in the fenders. Window frames on the door looks a little thick, but bear in mind it's a Sunstar model which means it's not the finest; the real car features a really thin window frames that slides down when the power windows are operated whcih gives the car the hardtop appearance. The interior is quite basic but well executed especially the details on the dash. However, the colour could be better as the other prominent color is pink with a burnt orange carpent and whitish cream seats, then you got the pink which looks kind of gaudy but it doesnt matter as for this model, it's all about the exterior really. It is carpeted, though the seats is nicely patterned, it is clearly plastic, a solid plastic, not convincing at all but it looks nice .The headliner is bare though I wasn't expecting a decent one anyway as you can see attachments of the windshield and the rear windows and the tube that holds the rear door mechanism. The windows are blatanly plastic which is not a good thing as it really distort the interior when you look inside, particularly the wrap around windshield. Wheels are basic, but accurate. Steering operates smoothly. Underside is very basic - though like people care about that as we wont see it anyway. I will give this model a 7/10 if I have to rate it as it is a very unique and a very classy subject matter,nicely executed diecast that comes with amount of features and a decent price.
