Porcelain from the Sea Bottom - a photo on Flickriver

            The thirteen meters long mosaic is made of pieces of porcelain from the sea bottom! The East Indiaman “Götheborg" ran aground and sank just outside Gothenburg in 1745. When the ship sunk, there was an attempt to save most of the cargo. For centuries several excavations of the wreck have been carried out. 
In 1984 a group of amateur divers took an interest in the wreck and found pieces of porcelain. A marine archeology excavation was carried out 1986-1992. 
The Marine Museum of Gothenburg is today responsible for the findings that were excavated. The Museum has donated some of the pieces of porcelain to the park "The Garden Society" ("Trädgårdföreningen") and the wall of the installation "The Sunken Garden". Design: Art director Nina Thalinson and architect Gert Wingårdh. 
The idea of a Sunken Garden was actually popular in English and American gardens a hundred years ago. Then it was a part of the garden, lower than the surrounding area,
