Gothenburg City Hall I - a photo on Flickriver

The older part was built circa 1670. Architect: Nicodemus Tessin the Elder.
The newer part was built 1935-37 for the District Court. The extension is a famous example of the meeting between classical and modern architecture. The extension is adapted to the City Hall but you can also see when it was built. Asplund also designed all the furniture, the lamps etc. for the building.
Architect: Gunnar Asplund (1885-1940), professor of architecture at the Royal Institute of Technology.
In 2010 the court moved to a new building. After renovation this part of the City hall now houses the city’s political leaders. It´s also the place where civil marriages are performed by a government official.
