Venice Biennale: Sustainable Timber II

An exhibition called "One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Trees", showing the timber project "Sara Kulturhus" in Skellefteå, Sweden, completed in 2021. The cultural center and hotel is, with 20 floors and 80 meters height, one of Europe's tallest wooden buildings. The installation explores the building technology, the material supply chains, and the impact on the forests from which it was built. Using carbon as an agreed measure, the installation points towards positive new forms of practice.
The cultural center consists of theatre, library, art hall and museum. The hotel has 200 rooms, café, restaurant and gym.

The 18th International Architecture Exhibition was titled "The Laboratory of the Future".

The biennale has been organised every year since 1895, which makes it the oldest of its kind. The main exhibition alternates between art and architecture (hence the name biennale; biennial). Other events, theatre, music, dance and the Venice Film Festival, are held annually in various parts of Venice.
