Helsinki Railway Station IV - a photo on Flickriver

One of the side entrances. Helsinki Central Station is the main station for commuter rail and long-distance trains departing from Helsinki, Finland. About 200,000 people "pass through the station" every day, half of whom are train passengers.
Pile-driving of the new station building was started in 1912 but the construction was delayed when World War I broke out in 1914. By orders of emperor Nicholas II of Russia, the station was converted into a military hospital for the Russian forces from 1915 to 1916. The Finnish Civil War broke out after the Russian Revolution in 1917 and Finland declared its full independence, with the Reds conquering the station in January 1918.
The station building, clad in granite, was finally inaugurated in 1919, designed by Eliel Saarinen, partly in Art Deco style. Helsinki Central was chosen as one of the world's most beautiful railway stations by BBC in 2013.
