Tulips at twilight

            A twilight scene of tulips at my favorite flower strewn wooded area at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, New Zealand.

A variegated red tulip is the focal point, with other tulips (red/yellow, red, white/green, and finally yellow) lending their blobs of colour, a blaze of blue/white from bluebells in the cente distance, and probably an orange azalea top left. My initial reaction to the darker tree shapes on the right were that it added too much contrast and I should eliminate them. But then I realised they were part of the story of what I love about this spot and time of day - firstly that it is wooded, and secondly the darkness adds to the twilight mood. This one feels like a painting to me, and has really grown on me since I initially passed it over while culling that day's images.
