Redbud at dusk - a photo on Flickriver

Redbud at dusk

            I do love a good Cercis (redbud) in spring! Taken after sunset at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, New Zealand.

I am not sure which species this one is - it may be gigantea (they do have that elsewhere). I've been admiring this tree for the last few springs, and I really liked the way this photo came out.

I love the way the vivid red heart-shaped leaf buds are backlit by the glow on the horizon and lend a glow of their own. The purple blossoms which can be made out in the middle disatance have been used to paint in the background by shooting through the more distant branches of the same tree, towards the fading light on the horizon.
