Clare family graves - a photo on Flickriver

            These are the graves of the wife and family of the poet John Clare, at Northborough churchyard, near Peterborough.  The Clare family went to live in Northborough some time after Martha ('Patty') married John at Helpston, the neighbouring village.  John Clare is buried in Helpston (see other photo on my photostream), but his wife and children are buried here.  There is something symbolic about this, I'm sure.  John's heart was certainly in Helpston, and he started to show signs of serious mental illness after the move, whereas Patty was very much at home in Northborough.
