            Dubuque, Iowa, sits along the Mississippi River, at the junction of Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin, and is Iowa’s oldest city and one of the oldest settlements west of the Mississippi River. The area's first permanent settler was French-Canadian fur trader Julien Dubuque, for whom the city is named.

Dubuque has numerous historic sites, and architectural Historic Districts with well-preserved buildings and homes. In recent decades, the city has redeveloped its Mississippi River front and revitalized its downtown area.
 
Eagle Point Park covers 164 acres in northeast Dubuque. The park sits on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River and the Lock and Dam No. 11. The park, which was expanded and renovated during the Great Depression through the Works Progress Administration, was listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.
