Lotus 49 Formula 1 Racer 1968

            Introduced during the 1967 Formula 1 season, the Lotus 49 was one of the most successful racers from the Lotus Factory.

Powered by the Cosworth DFV (later Ford/Cosworth) 3.0 litre V8, the car won on debut with Jim Clark and would continue to win racers into 1970.

The Lotus Type 49 displayed here is in the livery from early 1968, traditional British Racing Green with Yellow stripe. Later cars from Monaco onwards were painted in red, cream and gold of title sponsor - Gold Leaf Cigarettes.

Graham Hill on the 1968 Driver's Championship in the Lotus 49. The earlier racers had been one by his team mate Jim Clark, who tragically lost his life at the wheel in a Formula 2 race at Hockenheim in Germany.
