Im 14. Jahrhundert wurde Notre-Dame-de-la-Mer zur Wehrkirche umgebaut, die noch heute steht, und seit dieser Zeit wurde der Name Notre-Dame-de-la-Mer gebräuchlich. 1448 entdeckte man (angebliche) Reliquien der beiden Heiligen Marie Jacobé und Marie Salomé, die in der Folgezeit zu einem speziellen „Marienkult“ führten, zu dem auch Gläubige von weiter her pilgerten. Während der Französischen Revolution wurde dieser Kult verboten und die Kirche teilweise zerstört (1873 restauriert).
