Oudtshoorn in der Lokalgemeinde Oudtshoorn, im Distrikt Garden Route der südafrikanischen Provinz Westkap, ist die bedeutendste Stadt der Kleinen Karoo.

Den Namen erhielt der Ort nach dem 1772 ernannten Gouverneur der Kapkolonie Pieter van Rheede van Oudtshoorn, der jedoch auf dem Weg nach Kapstadt 1773 verstarb.
Die Stadt liegt zwischen den Swartbergen im Norden und den Outeniqua-Bergen im Süden am Gobbelaars River.[2] Sie ist das Zentrum der südafrikanischen Straußenindustrie, die Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts ihre Glanzzeit hatte. Von dieser legen noch einige „Federpaläste“ in Edwardianischer Architektur der „Straußenbarone“ Zeugnis ab.

Oudtshoorn in the local municipality of Oudtshoorn, in the Garden Route district of South Africa's Western Cape province, is the most important town in the Little Karoo.

The town was named after the governor of the Cape Colony Pieter van Rheede van Oudtshoorn, who was appointed in 1772 but died on his way to Cape Town in 1773.
The town lies between the Swartberg Mountains in the north and the Outeniqua Mountains in the south on the Gobbelaars River.[2] It is the center of the South African ostrich industry, which had its heyday at the beginning of the 20th century. Some "feather palaces" in Edwardian architecture of the "ostrich barons" still bear witness to this.
