Dust Storm on Kluane Lake - a photo on Flickriver

Dust storms are now constant and perennial on the southeast shores of Kluane Lake, because of the lake's incessant shrinking. This shrinking is documented to be directly cause by climate change; the Kaskawulsh Glacier that historically fed this lake and gave it life has receded so far back into the mountains that it's melt water runoff is now flowing in a completely different direction, toward the Gulf of Alaska. This geologic phenomenon is known as 'river piracy.'

According to scientists, the immense Slims River disappeared in a matter of four days in the spring of 2016, during a very rapid melting of the Kaskawulsh Glacier, giving the meltwaters a completely different direction for perpetuity.

This is the first documented case of "continental-scale rearrangement" with evidence pointing to climate change.
