Torcello

            Torcello è un'isola della laguna Veneta settentrionale. 
Fu uno dei più antichi e prosperi insediamenti della laguna, fino al declino conseguente alla predominanza della vicina Venezia e al mutare delle condizioni ambientali. 
Attualmente l'isola conta appena tredici residenti, ma l'inestimabile patrimonio archeologico che ancora conserva ne fa un luogo turistico molto frequentato. 
La Locanda Cipriani in primo piano nella foto è nota per aver ospitato Ernest Hemingway nell’autunno del 1948.

Torcello is an island in the northern Venetian lagoon. 
It was one of the oldest and most prosperous settlements in the lagoon, until the decline resulting from the predominance of nearby Venice and changing environmental conditions. 
Currently the island has just thirteen residents, but the priceless archaeological heritage that still preserves it makes it a popular tourist spot. 
The Locanda Cipriani in the foreground in the picture is known for having hosted Ernest Hemingway in the autumn of 1948.
