Another take on King Tower - a photo on Flickriver

Halfway between Chicago and Omaha.
On the old Lincoln Highway - Tama, Iowa
Opened in 1937.

Vintage postcard here. Interesting to note: the Chief used to face the building, but now he faces the road. : )

This shot is from last June, just before the cafe closed down, but the place was mighty deserted even then.

Once upon a time this was a one-stop location, offering everything the traveler needed: a streamlined tower gas station with complete garage service, an air-conditioned cafe, and modern heated cabins.

Now only the cafe and two old neon signs remain, along with one cabin preserved out back.
