ANTON BRUCKNER's 127th anniversary 📯 (Pilgrimage to Great Master - VI)

            ANSFELDNERHOF – STRANGE ENOUGH, this old-fashioned inn is for me the iconic symbolic edifice of Bruckner's birth place. Probably because I saw authentic local life unfolding there in my own life span. Visiting Ansfelden it became soon obvious this was a public place closest to Bruckner's birth house and parish church. It had the air of old times and yet life going on there. I would have a drink there, or a meal. I think I stayed overnight twice. One of the windows on the first floor (above the tavern occupying the ground floor) was ours on an occasion. In October 2002 kids were on school vacation and we hired a room above this old city pub. I was surprised how dated the room was and rejoiced enormously about that. Much more authentic than any garni, hotel or even private rooms I stayed in around Garmisch/Bayern/Dolomites or central Germany. The atmosphere was really one of a simple but honest, neat, substantial overnight accommodation of the earlier times. The inn is now closed, probably for good, which makes my stay there a historic one.

October 2002: To our surprise, later on this small square in front of the inn became very busy. A manifestation took place. It was a humble, relaxed and merry program dedicated to the hunting season's opening. A small village brass band in local folk's costumes played some country music, french horns included. And yeah, sure enough! I heard the familiar rhythmic and melodic stuff from the famous symphonic Scherzo's... needless to say, it was one of the most exciting moments of all my visits there. A free special treat to remember.

Note the bust above the square - it's combined in a monument to the Meister who made the village famous. It wasn't there in the 1990s. Surely, a monument is better than no monument, but I'm not in awe of this particular design. 
This small square was completely desolate in this capture taken on the rainiest Saturday early morning of the last summer.
