Rare One

            Proximity to extinction gives us a measure of forgiveness for less than perfect shots! This is a New Zealand Saddleback. Like many native creatures of Aotearoa it was well on the way to disappearing due to the small, savage carnivores introduced by the European invaders.
This North Island Saddleback is established in the Zealandia Wildlife Sanctuary and is part of the success story shared by a number of small, protected colonies situated in safe places since the mid 1960"s.
