Scarlet Ibis

            The Scarlet Ibis (Eudocimus ruber) is a South American wading bird that belongs to the same order as herons, spoonbills, and storks. 
The Scarlet Ibis inhabits the swamps, mudflats, wetlands and coastal regions of tropical northern South America and parts of southern Central America. 
In Trinidad they are protected as the the national bird of that island. 
Adults are 56–69 cm long and weigh 650g. They are completely scarlet, except for black wing-tips. Sexes are alike. The life span of Scarlet Ibis is approximately 15 years in the wild and 20 years in captivity.
The Scarlet Ibis is very closely related to the American White Ibis (Eudocimus albus) and is sometimes considered conspecific with it.

De Rode Ibis (Eudocimus ruber) is een Zuid-Amerikaanse wadvogel die behoort tot dezelfde orde als reigers, lepelaars en ooievaars. 
De Rode Ibis bewoont de moerassen, slikwadden, waterrijke gebieden en kustgebieden van tropisch noordelijk Zuid-Amerika en delen van het zuiden van Centraal-Amerika. 
Op het eiland Trinidad is het de nationale vogel. 
Volwassenen zijn 56-69 cm lang en wegen tot 650 gram. Ze zijn volledig scharlakenrood, met uitzondering van de zwarte vleugelpunten. De seksen zijn gelijk. 
De levensverwachting is ongeveer 15 jaar in het wild en 20 jaar in gevangenschap. 
De Rode Ibis is nauw verwant aan de Amerikaanse Witte Ibis (Eudocimus albus) en wordt soms als een ondersoort daarvan beschouwd.
