Darjeeling Night Shift. - a photo on Flickriver

            Its night shift on the Darjeeling Mountain Railway in the loco shed. Its chuffing freezing. Stupidly i thought all of India would be baking hot. Let me tell you that at nearly 7000 ft near the border with Bhutan and Nepal it is anything but that. When everyone else was tucked up inside their homes i ventured out in temps that were between 3 and 6 degrees, not usually a problem for a toughened westcountry Brit but when i say i was travelling light and 75% of my kit was camera gear...yeah you know where this is going. I didn't pack my thermals.
The chief engineer had the right idea and shortly after taking this shot i joined him and his colleagues around the fire whilst they planned their evenings maintenance programme for the B class steam locos on shed that night.
