Philbrook Museum of Art - a photo on Flickriver

            This is a view of the Philbrook Museum of Art from the garden area.  The building was the built by Waite Phillips, a petroleum developer, as a home for his family.  The home has a mere 72 rooms and a small 25-acre garden.  I visited Hearst Castle earlier this year and this property reminded me of that visit.  It shows what you can do when you have more money than you know what to do with.  You can build an enormous home for your family and friends to enjoy.

He only lived here with his family for around 10 years and donated the property to the city of Tulsa in 1938.  He wanted the home to be used for arts and cultural purposes.  Today you can see an eclectic collection of art and wander through the garden area.  While we were visiting here, there was and Earth Day event going on in the garden area and there were lots of families enjoying the grounds.  I really like what the city of Tulsa has done to make this a highlight of the community.
