Soquel Meadow - a photo on Flickriver

Soquel Meadow

            I stopped to take pictures of this Meadow on the way back down the mountain from the Fresno Dome while driving on the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway.  I did some research online to find out some history about the building and the name of the meadow.  A lumber company bought a lumber mill in Soquel on the coast and moved it to this location and renamed the meadow after Soquel.  

There was a lot of lumber harvesting done in this area in the past and you can still see evidence of it from buildings like this one.  They harvested the trees and sent them down over fifty miles to the town of Madera to be processed.  You can still see the old flumes in the forest if you know where to look.  

I think the red ribbon on the building was from a Christmas event that they have here yearly.  They have a fundraising event where you can cut down a Christmas tree, have a hot chocolate, and take a family picture in front of the building.  It sure would make a nice Christmas memory.
