73 006 and 56 051 on shed at Stewarts Lane. 1993.

            Home depot shed mates sees 73 006 stood alongside 56 051. This was the month the "Isle of Grain" nameplates formerly carried by 33 050 were transferred onto 56 051 without ceremony at the depot. 33 050 having been withdrawn from service the previous month on 14/05/93. There is no actual date quoted for the application of the nameplates but I suspect it was within days of this picture being taken as the loco was coming off a major exam at the time hence all its brake and control air pipes having been repainted and the roof grills being up along the side.
73 006 on the other hand had been withdrawn the previous month on 16/5/93 and looked to be facing a bleak future at one stage as it had arrived back at the depot by road from Tonbridge with a seized traction motor. However all was not lost as Regional Railway North West agreed to finance repairs and on 2/6/1993 (three weeks earlier than when I took this) its was formerly allocated to Birkenhead North Depot for use on Merseyrail. It languished at Stewarts Lane Depot a further two months before heading north to its new home in August 1993.
