Caribbean Wasp Moth (Horama pretus) - St Kitts - March 2016

            This species is an excellent paper wasp mimic, best witnessed when it is in flight with wings whirring and legs dangling. It occurs at least from Puerto Rico to n. Venezuela and the caterpillars feed on the tree/bush Cassinae xylocarpa.

Members of this genus as a whole imitate paper wasps, with one species (Texas Wasp Moth) occurring in the US in s. TX.
