            Divine Invasion: A Life of Philip K. Dick by Lawrence Sutin [review 0788 - author biography - February 14, 2019]

   One of my most rewarding literary experiences is to read a well written, researched and documented biography of an author I greatly admire. Lawrence Sutin's biography of Philip K. Dick (1928-82) is such a book.
   
   No biography can be considered the "last word" but this book has to be the gold standard any subsequent works must measured against. Not only is Author Sutin's scholarship very impressive but his lucid text make Dick's life story a pleasure to read.  

   The 289 pages of text are supplement by 27 pages of notes and footnotes, A 22 page survey and guide to 59 of his books - novels and collections, a 10 page index and 19 family photographs. 

   In his brief life of 53 years Phil Dick wrote 44 published novels, and approximately 121 short-stories, married five ladies and continues to confound and delight a legion of readers.  This book greatly complemented my interest in the life and writing of Phil Dick.

   In case you were curious among his novels "Dr. Bloodmoney" and "Time out of Joint" are highly recommended from this admirer.
