DSC_1491_Fossil proboscidean tooth

            Found this while rooting through crates of old rock.  Clearly this is a fossilized tooth, but I'm not exactly sure what.  Some sort of prehistoric elephant (Gomphotherium of some sort? Like a Tetralophodon?) seems likely.  If anyone knows, I'd love it if you shared the knowledge.

In the meantime, I'll stick with the Tetralophodon guess, since that means "four-ridged tooth."  Incidentally, it also had four tusks. 

Update: From Rocktumblinghobby on ProBoards, I have two that believe maybe it's mammoth, and one who thinks it could be from a mastodon.  None seem certain, but one of the mammoth-theorists is a fossil guy and seems pretty confident.  So a prehistoric proboscidean seems pretty well confirmed.  Genus/species leaning toward mammoth.
