Russell's Official National Motor Coach Guide : March 1953 : Russell's Guides Inc., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA, : 1953 : The Short Way Lines, Toledo, Ohio : "Like an endless belt"

            Russell's Guides began issuing consolidated railroad timetable guides in 1889 and first produced an equivalent monthly guide to road transport in 1927. The March 1953 edition has a very futuristic streamlined coach on the cover obviously suggesting the modernity of motor coach travel! 

The services are grouped by region and operator with some supplying more detailed information such as route maps as well as the time tables. This page takes the form of a marvellous map of the Short Way Lines services across the state of Michigan. The company was based just to the south in the city of Toledo, Ohio, but as can be seen ran intra- and inter-state services. This includes the Toledo - Ann Arbor - Flint services that ran 'like an endless belt" as well as offering 'student specials' on Sunday and Fridays for weekend travel!
