Colour Photography in Advertising : Finlay Photographic Process Ltd. : in Commercial Art, July 1931

            A rather splendid, posed photograph shown in the July 1931 issue of 'Commercial Art" that looked at the increasing use of photography in advertising as printing processes improved. Using the "Finlay Photographic Process" this image was used by agency Greenly's for client Carreras Ltd., manufacturers of various brands of tobaccos and cigarettes. This included the "Craven "A" cigarettes used here as well as their "Black Cat" brand that helped adorn their factory close to Mornington Crescent tube station in Camden, North London.

This 'alluring' image was intended to both subliminally 'link' smoking to luxury as well as, one suspects,  targetting female smokers, a vital part of the cigarette market.
