Big Extension of Cheap Rail Travel every day between Many Stations on Map : booklet issued by the London & North Eastern Railway : London : 1929

            The cover to a 55 page booklet listing the 'new' cheap day return travel tickets available over much of the LNER's ex-Great Eastern lines and issued from 15 April 1929. As well as allowing some more permissive hours of availablity there was now the "concession" that you could return from any station on the map by payment of the difference between your original ticket and any new one required. The fares still protected the busiest 'peak' hours especially into and from the main terminin at Liverpool Street and Fenchurch Street stations.

The diagram on the cover is interesting; as well as showing lines still much in use many have now been transferred to London Overground or, indeed, the Elizabeth line. Even earlier transfers where the Ongar branch and the Hainault - Ilford loop much of which had gone over to London Underground in post-WW2 years. There are also some now closed lines such as the Epping - Ongar section (now operated as a preserved line), the Palace Gates branch, the line out to Buntingford and various branch lines further out in rural Essex.
