3/52 - a photo on Flickriver

            Continuing with the fog theme this week.  This was shot at a new (to me) location, Slacker Ridge.  I drove up to the Marin Headlands in the wee hours of the morn' to capture this low fog.  By car, it was unapparent that I could in fact get above the fog.  The upper, gated, section of the road that leads to the highest viewpoint of the bridge was closed, so I considered simply walking up the road, but I thought, hey, I'm right next to the trailhead for slacker ridge, which I haven't explored yet, so why not give it a try?  

It was pitch black out still, and my flashlight created a clearly defined beam through the thick fog, but provided little help in showing what was right in front of me.  I have to admit, it was a bit creepy, all alone, in complete darkness and thick fog, amidst undefined animal noises climbing this trail I'd never been on before.  Once I reached the top, where this shot was taken, I decided to stop and set up my camera even though a trail continued down the steep ridge in front of me.  Having ventured down it afterward, I'm very glad I didn't attempt it in the dark.

The next time I'm crazy enough to be up so early, I'll likely shoot from the road which leads to the highest viewpoint, as it faces exactly where the sun rises and might allow for a more interesting sky.

I'm posting this a bit prematurely because tomorrow is so busy that I wouldn't have time to do so.  Crossing my fingers that I can capture something in time for next week!
