Tour du Cellier - Saint Jean la Fouillouse - Lozère

            Au Moyen-Âge, le Gévaudan était divisé en huit baronnies. La paroisse de Saint-Jean-de-Fouillouse faisait partie de celle de Randon qui s’étendait entre La Truyère et l’Allier. Les frontières du Gévaudan n’étaient pas tout à fait les mêmes que celles de la Lozère. Le hameau du Cellier conserve ainsi des vestiges de l’une des places fortes de ces seigneurs. La tour du Cellier est un donjon qui devait faire partie d’un ensemble castral constitué de plusieurs bâtiments. Juchée sur un rocher, la tour se présente au centre du hameau. Elle est construite en moyen appareil de pierres de granite et est de forme quadrangulaire. On remarque qu’elle ne possède aujourd’hui qu’une faible élévation qui devait être plus haute à l’époque médiévale. Au niveau inférieur de la tour, une porte a été ajoutée plus tard percée dans les moellons. À l’époque, les portes étaient souvent en hauteur pour minimiser les pillages et les attaques.
